Update on Listed Awarding Body Scheme
We are delighted to advise that the necessary policies and criteria to enable the Listed Awarding Bodies scheme have now been approved and published. The establishment of Listed Awarding Bodies and inclusion of their awards in the Framework is enabled by the 2019 amendment to the Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Education and Training) Act. It delivers on the initial ambition of the NFQ to recognise all learning and will strengthen the Irish NFQ by including a wider and more diverse array of qualifications. This will ultimately benefit learners who will have greater confidence and trust in the qualifications they achieve and enhanced opportunities for access, transfer and progression and improved mobility and employment opportunities by having a nationally and internationally recognised qualification.
We have developed a number of tools which are designed to assist prospective LABs in preparing for an application and the QQI website has been updated to provide information about applying to become a Listed Awarding Body.
We will arrange meetings with the invited applicants in the coming months with a view to applications being submitted in January. We hope to arrange a webinar for prospective LABs in October.
