Publication of ‘Rough Guide’ to Afghan qualifications
A significant milestone has been reached with the publication of Rough Guide to Afghan qualifications in the context of the Irish National Framework of Qualifications, the third and final publication in the NARIC Ireland 'Rough Guide' series.
The series also includes the ‘Rough guide to Ukrainian qualifications’ and the ‘Rough Guide to Syrian qualifications’ and supports the integration and fair recognition of skills and qualifications of migrants and refugees across all levels of our education and training system and in employment.
According to the latest Census, “there were 18,566 people present in the State on Census Night who indicated that their country of citizenship was Ukraine.” Ukrainian citizens, at 25 years of age, were the youngest average age among non-Irish citizens. There are currently 21 qualifications from Ukraine listed on NARIC Ireland’s database, seven of which were newly added in 2022. In the same Census, “the number of people living in Ireland but born in Syria increased more than four times to 3,922 since 2016.” Of the 1,700 qualifications listed on the NARIC Ireland database, 12 are from Syria. While the Afghan population in Ireland is currently small, more than 1001 but fewer than 10,000 people from Afghanistan live here currently.
The supplementary ‘Rough guides’ further support the work of recruiters, guidance personnel, information officers, employers, education and training providers, schools, Institutions, competent authorities and credential evaluators who meet with refugees and their families. NARIC Ireland services support the fair recognition of qualifications from home in line with the Lisbon Recognition Convention (LRC).

Recognition decisions are not made by NARIC Ireland.
