QQI deeply saddened at the passing of QQI Board Member Dr Ann-Louise Gilligan

The Board and the staff of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) are deeply saddened at the news that QQI Board Member Dr Ann-Louise Gilligan passed away today after a short illness at St James’ Hospital. 

On behalf of the Board and staff, QQI would like to extend its deepest sympathies to Dr Gilligan’s wife Minister Katherine Zappone and family and loved ones at this sad time.
Dr Gilligan was an educator who taught in St Patrick’s College Drumcondra until she retired in 2009.

Among her achievements, Dr Gilligan established the Centre for Educational Disadvantage in St Patrick’s College in 2000 and was also co-founder of An Cosán in West Tallaght. She was a former member of the Educational Disadvantage Committee and chaired the National Educational Welfare Board. She was also Co-Director of the Centre for Progressive Change.

Dr Gilligan was appointed to the Board of QQI by Minister for Education and Skills Ruairi Quinn on 6 November 2012. She was a powerful contributor at Board meetings particularly in relation to her extensive knowledge and experience of community education. She also served with distinction on a number of QQI’s committees.
