Inaugural Review of QA in ETBs Begins
The Inaugural Review of Quality Assurance in Ireland’s 16 Education and Training Boards is underway, with the first external review visit (being held virtually) at Limerick and Clare ETB commencing on 22 March, and planning ongoing for the visits of the external review teams to Laois and Offaly ETB, Donegal ETB and Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB.
External reviewers (national and international) are selected for their expertise in one or more specific areas, providing perspectives from education & training, quality assurance, learner voice, community and industry.
Phase 1 of this cycle of reviews will be completed by mid-June with the review visit to Cork ETB. The complete cycle of reviews is set to conclude in autumn 2022.
The inaugural review is an historic event – both for QQI and the ETBs – as it is the first review process of its kind to be conducted within the sector. It seeks to further encourage the development of the quality culture within ETBs and improve public confidence in the quality of FET provision by promoting transparency and public awareness.
The implementation of this review process is a collaborative effort, with support from SOLAS in briefing the review teams and from AONTAS in enhancing learner engagement. Further information on the review cycle is available here.
