Technological higher education sector workshop

to

The technological higher education sector has undergone much change over the past four years – from the designation of institutes of technology as designated awarding bodies (DABs) to the establishment of technological universities.

On Friday, 24 March, QQI will host an in-person workshop for representatives of the technological higher education institutions to meet and reflect upon the implications of these changes. The workshop will take place in Dublin.

Session chairs on the day will include

  • Professor Vincent Cunnane, President, Technological University of the Shannon.
  • Dr Órla Flynn, President, Atlantic Technological University.
  • Dr Mary Meaney, Registrar, Technological University Dublin.
  • Dr Áine Ní Shé, Vice-President Academic Affairs and Registrar, Munster Technological University.
  • Dr Padraig Walsh, Chief Executive, QQI

Among the areas for consideration are:

  • Preparation for CINNTE institutional review and the unanticipated and intangible benefits of the process for newly established institutions in developing a unified identity and an inaugural strategic plan – as well as understanding how new strategies are working and informing and supporting change management.
  • Academic governance within the technological higher education institutions – and new responsibilities brought about by institutions’ designation as DABs.
  • Ways in which institutions can work to strengthen the qualifications system in the areas such as awards standards development and maintenance, assessment and collaborative and transnational provision – individually and as a sector.
  • The benefits of collaboration and engagement between the technological higher education sector and the FET sector in areas such as apprenticeship and tertiary programmes.

This is a closed event for staff of technological universities and institutes of technology only.
