Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) briefing
The International Education Mark (IEM), currently under development at QQI, will be the national quality mark awarded to Irish higher education (HE) and English language education (ELE) providers who have demonstrated that they meet national standards to ensure a high-quality experience for international learners, from enrolment to completion of their programme of education and training.
A fundamental requirement of the Code of Practice for ELE providers is a provider’s demonstration of alignment of their English Language programmes to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
To support this requirement, the International Education Unit, with support from the Stakeholder Engagement Unit, has developed a project designed to provide opportunities for ELE providers to focus on the development, or further development, of their syllabus and programme design to align with the CEFRL. As a key part of this, we are organising a series of two core briefings focusing on the CEFRL. The content of these briefings will include:
1. The concepts to language education underpinning the CEFRL;
2. The approach to language education reflected in the Framework;
3. Ideas on how to approach the design of programmes using the CEFRL;
4. Some practical applications to support providers’ syllabus and programme design.
The first of these briefings will take place in Dublin on Friday, 9 September and Saturday, 10 September from 09:00-17:00. The second briefing will take place in November.
ELE providers who intend to apply for the IEM are invited to attend, and HE providers who offer ELE have been invited to send a representative. We are also inviting ELE organisations and groups to join us. If you are interested in attending, please email us at the International Education Unit at International.Education@qqi.ie for more information.
