9th Meeting of the Irish EU Reference Group of Agencies of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science

QQI, in collaboration with the HEA, Léargas, and Euroguidance at the National Centre for Guidance in Education (NCGE), and SOLAS held the 9th Annual Meeting of the EU Reference Group of DFHERIS Agencies online on 2nd February 2022.

The event was well attended with over 100+ diverse participants from across the education and training sector registered for the event, to listen and engage with stakeholders discussing EU-related activities and developments of interest to the wider education and training community. 

The event was divided up into two sessions:

  • Session 1 was chaired by Angela Lambkin (Qualifications Information and Learning Opportunities Unit – National Europass Cnentre NEC/QQI) and involved poster updates by speakers such as Charis Hughes (Léargas), Sheena Duffy (HEA), Jennifer McKenzie and Órla Ni Cheallaigh (NCGE), and Órla Barry and Angela Lambkin (QQI).
  • Session 2 was chaired by Róisín Doherty (Director of FET Active Inclusion, SOLAS) and involved a comprehensive European Commission presentation from our keynote speaker Koen Nomden (Team leader for Transparency and Recognition of Skills and Qualifications, European Commission).

There was active and substantial engagement during the Q&A session and panel discussion on topics such as Erasmus+, guidance, higher education, quality assurance, Europass tools, mobility, digitalisation, and micro credentials.  The ongoing need for collaboration was discussed with existing practices commended.

Angela Lambkin welcomed all to the QQI 10th Anniversary Conference which is due to take place on the 18th and 19th October 2022 and to save the date!

Dr. Bryan Maguire (Director of Integration, QQI) closed the annual meeting by thanking all involved in the presenting, active participation and organising of the successful event and highlighted the timely Irish government (online) launch of the ‘Harnessing Digital – The Digital Ireland Framework’ on the 1st February 2022.
